Parts of the guide
4.Books: read a chapter, turn the pages
Illustrated science books, each chapter answering one question about the world around us. Every point in a book has its source listed at the end of the chapter.
Choose a book and a chapter
- Open Books in the bar at the top, pick a book, then pick a chapter. Every chapter starts with a question.
- Stopped halfway? The chapter's card has a Carry on reading button that opens the page where you left off.
Turning pages
- Click the arrows either side of the page, press
←→, or swipe sideways on a phone or tablet. - The row of dots under the page shows where you are; click a dot to jump to that page.
- The page number is in the address, so a link you send opens on the page you are reading.
Pictures to try for yourself
Every chapter has one moving picture: drag the slider, press the button or tap the picture to watch what the chapter has just described — an echo travelling back to a bat's ears, a chameleon's skin changing colour, a milk tooth making way for a new one.
Questions at the end
Each chapter ends with a few short questions. Answering them is up to you: press Read on to carry on reading. Get one wrong and the book points you back to the page with the answer — nothing is marked down.
Sources
The end of each chapter lists its sources: the publisher, the title and a link. The books are written in our own words, never copied.
